Women's Basketball Falls to Augustana, 84-61

St. Cloud, Minn. – Augustana College shot 60.7 percent in the second half and went on to post an 84-61 North Central Conference women’s basketball win at St. Cloud State University Saturday afternoon in Halenbeck Hall.

Augustana College maintained a ten point cushion throughout the first half and led by as many as 16 points. With the score 14-10 at the 12:38 mark, Augustana went on a 12-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 26-10 lead. Following a Husky timeout, SCSU went on an 8-0 run as junior Anna Cashman (Faribault) nailed a three-pointer and first year Abby Rittenhouse (Burnsville)scored five points to close to 26-18 with 6:52 left. With just under three minutes left, the Huskies got to within eight points once again on jumpers by senior Kayla Rengel (St. Cloud) and junior Krystal Scott (Rosemount), but Augustana led 35-25 at half time.

In the second half, the Huskies closed the margin to seven points as first year Talisha Barlow (Little Canada) scored eight of the Huskies first 15 points and SCSU trailed 47-40 at the 13:41 mark. Augustana pulled away in the remainder of the half with a solid shooting performance.

Augustana was led by senior Ashley Holiday with 17 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks and five steals. Junior Amy Puthoff led all scorers with 23 points and Molly Hayes added 17 points for the Vikings. Augustana out rebounded the Huskies 45-34 and made 18 of 21 free throw attempts.

St. Cloud State was led by guard Talisha Barlow with 16 points as she connected on seven of 11 field goals, including two of three from three-point range. Rittenhouse scored a career high 12 points and Kayla Rengel finished the game with ten points, a team high six rebounds, and three blocked shots.

St. Cloud State is 9-10 overall and 1-3 in the NCC. The Huskies play at Minnesota Duluth next Saturday in an NCC match up. Augustana improved to 17-4 overall and 3-1 in the NCC.
