Augustana Uses Second Half Goal to Slip Past Huskies 1-0

Friday, September 21, 2007

St. Cloud, Minn. - Tina Harris notched her third goal of the season early in the second half, to give Augustana a 1-0 victory over St. Cloud State at Husky Stadium Friday evening.

Harris stole the ball deep in Husky territory, sending a low shot past a sprawling Elizabeth Kelly (Omaha, Neb.) to provide the only scoring of the match. Kelly finished the contest with eight saves, bringing her percentage to .925 on the season.

SCSU had two solid scoring oppurtunities in the second half, but was denied both times. Ashley Herold (Moorhead) corraled a loose ball in the 47th minute from 15 yards out and fired a shot that was saved by a sprawling Lisa Jarovski.

The second came late in the match, as Chelsey Scheller (Maple Grove) took a Herold corner in the 82nd minute and fired a shot on goal. The ball was past Viking keeper Jarovski, but a member of the Viking defense stopped the shot, preventing the Husky equalizer.

The match was evenly played throughout, as Augustana outshot SCSU by just two shots at 15-13. Both keepers saw eight shots on goal, as Jarovski came away with seven saves and Kelly tallied eight.

The win moves Augustana to 5-3-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the NCC. St. Cloud State falls to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Huskies will be in action next at Nebraska-Omaha on September 29.
