MSU Gets a Much Needed Win Over UNO
Sophomore Guard Liz Trauger Tallies Fourth Career Double-Double
Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks defeated the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks by the score of 98-61. The win brings MSU’s record to 18-7 with a 4-6 North Central Conference record. The 18 wins is the most wins in a season for MSU since the 1985-86 season when it won 25.
MSU came out firing on all cylinders in the first 10 minutes as they jumped out to a 23-11 lead. Thirteen of the first 17 MSU points came off of turnovers.
Both continued to battle with Minnesota State edging out Nebraska-Omaha in the final 10 minutes 24-22. This brought the first half score to 47-33 in favor of MSU.
Junior guard Heather Johnson led MSU with 16 points, while shooting 7-of-9 from the field. Junior forward Alex Andrews led the team in rebounds with five, to go along with her eight points.
MSU came out firing the three-ball in the second half as it made three consecutive three-point shots to extend its lead to 62-42 with 13:45 left in the second half.
Minnesota State would not look back as it continued its torrid pace ending the second half on a 36-19 run in the final 13 minutes of the second half, that would bring the final score to 98-61 in favor of MSU
Sophomore forward Liz Trauger notched her third double-double of the season, and third of her career, with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Johnson led the team with 25 points, while sophomore guard Tiffany Moe tallied 17 points and eight assists. Andrews notched 13 points and six rebounds as well.
MSU hosts it last regular season contest against #23 Augustana Thursday, at 6 p.m. Minnesota State then hits the road to take on Nebraska-Omaha on March 1 to conclude its regular season.
