Huskies Fall to #14 Mavericks
Saturday, October 6, 2007
SCSU's Jennifer Waterman finished with 28 set assists against MSU. |
St. Cloud, Minn. - A day after the Huskies' three game win over North Dakota, the tables were turned as Minnesota State came to town and left with a 3-0 sweep of their own.
Game one was the closest of the match with St. Cloud State hanging around with the Mavericks until late in the game. A five point run by MSU late to go up 27-19 put the game away before securing the victory at 30-21. Minnesota State used their game one momentum and jumped out to a 17-7 lead in game two and never looked back, winning 30-16. In the finale the Huskies managed to battle but couldn't overcome the Mavericks. SCSU scored six of the games last nine points but it was too little, too late as MSU got the game and match win at 30-20.
Ashley Shields (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) led the way this afternoon for the Huskies with nine kills, followed closely by Emily Baldwin (Savage) who finished with eight. Kayla Tschida (Holdingford) finished with five kills, but swung .417 on her 12 attack attempts. Jennifer Waterman (Andover) continued her consistent play adding 28 assists on the afternoon. While no one was looking Waterman has put herself in position to set a new SCSU mark for assists by a first year. She now has 752 on the season leaving her just over 100 away from the current mark of 859.
SCSU is now 8-12 on the year and 1-4 in NCC play. Their next opponent is Bemidji State University on Tuesday October 9th. BSU beat the Huskies 3-1 in a match played in St. Cloud earlier this season. The rematch is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in Bemidji.
