Twelve Players Named to Balanced All-NCC Women's Basketball Team

  Sioux Falls, S.D. -- Five teams placed two players each on the 12-member 2005-2006 All-North Central Conference women's basketball team voted on by NCC coaches and announced today. North Dakota's Kristi Boese was voted the league's Most Valuable Player and North Dakota head coach Gene Roebuck received Coach of the Year honors for the ninth time in his career.

  North Dakota's Carissa Jahner and Augustana's Ashley Holiday were named league Defensive Players of the Year while Augustana's Chelsea DeVille was named Freshman of the Year. Nebraska-Omaha's Ashley Freerksen was honored as the Newcomer of the Year.

  Nine of the 12 players are making a repeat appearance on the team. Arin Andrews of Minnesota State, Kristi Boese of North Dakota and Erika Quigley of St. Cloud State all earned their third All-NCC honor while Alison Adamson of Augustana, Lindsey Dietz of Minnesota Duluth, Sascha Hansen of St. Cloud State, Ashley Langen of North Dakota and JJ Smith & Karen Thies of Nebraska-Omaha are appearing on the team for the second time.

  Boese helped lead North Dakota to the first undefeated regular season in school history when UND posted a 30-0 mark in the regular season with a  12-0 conference mark. She finished sixth in league scoring at 16.8 points per game and fourth in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds while hitting 52.6 of her field goals.

  Jahner finished the season with 1.67 steals per game while Holiday was second in the league with 2.42 blocks per game.

  DeVille finished her freshman campaign averaging 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per NCC game with being tied for 13th in the league with 1.42 steals per game.

  Freeksen, a junior transfer from Des Moines Area Community College, was 12th in rebounds (5.3 rpg), 15th in free throw percentage (70.3%) and 24th in scoring (8.1 ppg).

  Roebuck guided the Fighting Sioux to its first undefeated regular season with a 30-0 record and the conference championship with a 12-0 record, their tenth NCC title. It is the ninth time that Roebuck, in this 19th season,  has received the award. Roebuck also guided the Sioux to the Wells Fargo NCC Tournament Championship and will host the North Central Region Championships March 10-13.
